Flying Foxes

Flying Fox 4
These flying foxes are part of a local colony including both vulnerable species – the black flying fox (PTEROPUS ALECTO) and the Queensland long eared bat (NYCTOPHILUS BIFAX)
They are currently within the Maguires Creek Big Scrub Remnant and every evening they fly out in search of food. The sky becomes a mass of flying black images. Flying foxes are important in the ecosystem for seed dispersal of many fauna species.
When the figs are ripe in the two large Moreton Bay Figs in the reserve behind our house, they come to visit with much screeching, fighting and carrying on throughout the night – funny how these noises just become part of the night to the point where you simply sleep through it all.
