These flying foxes are part of a local colony including both vulnerable species - the black flying fox (PTEROPUS ALECTO) and the Queensland long eared bat (NYCTOPHILUS BIFAX) They are currently within the Maguires Creek Big Scrub Remnant and every evening they fly out in search of food. Whilst wandering around the Bagotville Barrage this raptor made a quick and brief appearance as it soared by into the distance in search of its distant mate. Not sure what sort of raptor it is....

Sitting along the rail of the Bagotville Barrage were Welcome Swallows. They allowed me to get reasonably close but then took off in quick dives down to a safe space under the barrage. Bagotville Barrage
Last weekend we took a trip to Maclean Highland Festival - on the way back we stopped briefly at the Baggotville Barrage - a small watercourse over the Richmond River. This plaque commemorates it's construction in 1971. The river had waterlillies, waterfowl, and a variety of birds...more in the following posts....
Daisy Bug 2 – Close-up
This is a close up cropped shot of my "daisy bug" - bug or a beetle? I must admit I just love the patternwork dots and edging and dominant markings...it actually looks a bit like a turtle shell - definitely 'armor-like'.
